Calise honored with new number

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Dodgeball and Football star Jared Calise was honored last week before the season with a signature Dizzy Llamas ringer with a bright number “2″ on the back.

Calise joined the Dizzy Llamas as a Dodgeball player in late 2007, and quickly made a name for himself.  He learned alongside a veteran Green Dodgeball team and  helped win a silver championship in the winter of 2008.  Jared then joined Captian Mike Bizer as founding members of the Dizzy Llamas Blue Dodgeball team.  He was an integral part of this burgeoning new squad, leading by example and helping the team’s new players learn a difficult game. Now, in his third season on Blue, the team is a championship contender.

In Addition to Dodgeball, Jared was part of the winning team at LlamaRace 2008 and is the starting cornerback for the Dizzy Llamas White Football team.  His perform over the last year has been noteworthy, and we look forward to seeing what the newest numbered Llama can do for the organization in the future.

Llamas Tee It Up At Sandy Burr

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

On Tuesday September 23rd, the Llamas were on the links for the Dick’s Last Resort charity golf tournament. 14 teams played in the scramble event, hosted by Sandy Burr Country Club in Wayland, MA, with proceeds benefiting the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation.

Bodell, Kantor, Comtois, Boates

Brad Bodell (far left) crushed the ball off the tee, giving the Llamas great second shots. Keith Kantor (2nd from left) played a fantastic short game, hitting some unbelievable chip shots onto the green. Mike Comtois (2nd from right) was the greens specialist, shooting last most of the day and sinking countless clutch putts. Tom Boates (far right) was an all-around hero for the team, hitting everything from long drives, difficult approaches, and long putts.

The Llamas shot a -1 (71) for the day, finishing 7th out of 14 teams in their first ever tournament. Congratulations to the entire team on a job well done.

Softball: Llamas win 3 in season openers

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

It took a three weeks, a lot of wet socks and a healthy dose of patience, but Dizzy Llamas softball kicked off their season in impressive fashion. Both Llama teams doled out mercy killings to their opponents, then Green closed out the night with a typical DL defensive gem.

The Reverse Houdini came face to face with White’s explosive offense in the first game. Mike Bizier and Shane Knowles sent soaring shots onto the outfield pavement, while Pitcher Vicky Catalan held them to a handful or runs before Keith Kantor closed out the game. Derek Price, a stowaway from Green drove in seven RBIs.

Green’s first game came with controversy, as a first inning spat between the Llamas and a Werewolf Bar Mitzvah’s infielder escalated into an ejection later in the game for the Llamas’ opponent. Undaunted, Green crushed them, quickly reaching the mercy quota in the third inning.

The second game played more like a baseball game, as Green and Xtra Crispy scratched and clawed just to plate runs. Ahead 5-3 late in the game, Scott Tarentino and Paul Costa drove in a pair of insurance runs to put the Llamas ahead for good. Green’s defensive prowess held their opponents to five scoreless innings, with infielders Derek Price and Mark Sinnamon playing flawlessly.

Earlier in the day, White got some disappointing news with the loss of Eddie Reynolds. The Llamas first baseman injured his groin during the club’s football game and was unavailable. No word on the extent of the injury or how much time he’ll lose.

Elizabeth Swanson pitched her first inning for the Llamas this Sunday. While she walked a handful of players, she was able to buckle down and end the inning. She is expected to get more time on the mound as the season continues.
